Acres of Diamonds

Russell Conwell was a man with a vision. He was born on a subsistence farm in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Through his life he tried many occupations but he finally settled upon being a minister in a poor section of Philadelphia.

It was here that he found his vision of how to help these people. He started teaching the factory workers and immigrant population of Philadelphia. He felt that the way to a better life was education.

He started a school at his church to teach people. Which soon grew to a size he had to recruit other people to help and he also needed to find funding for his program.

He had an inspirational speech called “Acres of Diamonds” and he followed what was called at the time the Chautauqua Circuit giving his speech over 6,000 times.

The money he collected from tickets and donations he sent back to his church in Philadelphia. He formed a college associated with the church called Temple College, and the tuition was free.

Russell had a vision and it was to help the immigrant population of that area to realize the American Dream. He pursued this vision till he died in December 1925. Having formed Temple University.

He developed his vision and used his talents to pursue his dream. Does your company use all of its talents and in pursuing the Corporate vision?
