This is a membership Morsel from “Too Young to Retire”. Today, we are continuing to talk about Purpose and that there is so much more you can do with your life then
retire.
I am proposing that we retire the word retirement. You may not realize it, but it is projected that the average person today will live to 100 years old. What does that mean? If you say your productive life is between 18 and 95 then by age 56 you are at the midpoint of your life. When you retire at 60, 62, 65 you still have half your life to live.
The world is unprepared for the new longevity. It was only 60 or 70 years ago that 90% of the population was dead at 68. Now you are only at the halfway point. Most people are at the peak of their knowledge, experiences, and money. Those experiences and knowledge are thrown away and never used again for most people. They drop out of the world they knew.
I am proposing that we should be encouraging people to take a role as a mentor. Don’t wait for someone to take your hand and lead you. What is needed is more multi-generational discussions. I am referring to the dialogue between young people and older people. More dialogue between the retired generations between age 55 and 100. If you think about it, when you have a large population that is between 55 and 95, you have 3 or 4 generations in that group.
Are you up to the challenge to start working on the multiple paths needed to bring about this conversation? You will need multiple paths because you will run into obstacles on one path or another and with multiple paths you start working on another path. Don’t try to change the world, it is too big. Instead pick something with in your reach. Set your goals, plan your pathways and firm up your will power and go out there to help reshape the world and help it prepare to accept 100 year life spans.
By being part of the 2 Young 2 Retire we can help guide you as you explore future options and make the most of life.
