I am in the Hospital, Now What

This post has always been about the thought that most people are happiest when they have a direction and goal they are pursuing. This holds true for most people. I often get the feeling from many retires about where they are going with the following story.

The pilot of an airplane comes on the intercom. I got good news and bad news. The good news is that we have a great tail wind, and we are making unbelievable time. The bad news is our compass is broken and I haven’t a clue as to where we are going.

I got pondering this over one weekend while I was laying in a hospital bed getting checked out. After two and half days of tests and interviews by the many people on staff it was determined to be a Cardiovascular Accident. I felt fine but I had mild stroke symptoms behind my left eye causing it to go blind for several minutes.

Its nothing to be concerned about immediately but I need to make some lifestyle changes that include a change in medicines, eliminating salt, fatty foods and alcohol. The good thing it does not change the story I have to tell about having direction and purpose in your life.

It gives my story even more emphasis because you can’t predict the future. Why have regrets on your death bed or even your daily living. It doesn’t make sense to put off doing what you wanted to do because you think you will have more time, more money, or some other reason that will make the timing better.

You never know when your health will preclude you from doing what you have dreamed of or what tomorrow will bring. I was lucky in that I got a warning about making changes in my lifestyle so I could continue to pursue my new career.

I know many people who were not so lucky and died or were severally limited in activity that they could not do what they saved and dreamed for. They didn’t go on the trips with their spouse, they didn’t start their new careers, they didn’t explore the world, or pursue the any of their dreams.

Are you one of the people that believes you will never die and you can put off till tomorrow what you wanted to do today? Change your ways before mother nature tells you something different. Think of the Biblical story about the man who worked hard, built a big barn and filled it.

His plan was to enjoy the fruits of his hard work later rather than now. God called him a fool and said you will never enjoy the fruits of your labor. Are you postponing living the best life now to lay up treasures for a future you do not know will exist? Visit Patterson2Y2R for more inspirstion.
