The Bucket List

I wish you all a Happy 4th of July!

Think of how long the country has been around and all that has happened during its life. Its an amazing history of struggles, resilience, and faith in the goodness of man.

How many of you have ever compiled a list of everything you want to do before you become decrepit and feeble in old age? I watched the movie “The bucket list” with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman and it got me thinking about what is on my bucket list?

The movie was about two men who were terminally ill. Jack Nicholson played a rich executive who had never thought about what he wanted to accomplish before he died. Morgan Freeman was a middle-class man who had great dreams but little money to accomplish the many things he wanted to experience.

They both found purpose in helping each other make the most of the little time that each had left before they kicked the proverbial bucket. What would you do if you knew that your life was not going to go on forever?

Is there a bucket list lurking in your head that you have never started to work on because you believe you will always have next year. Is there something significant you wanted to do or be known for?

When you transition from the earning phase into the returning phase of your life, think about your bucket list. Are there places to visit, or people to see or help, or things to build for future generations to enjoy.

One such person was Andrew Carnegie. He became the richest man of his day. When he transitioned from the earning phase into the returning phase he worked at giving away all his wealth. He built over 3000 libraries, provided funding for a half dozen universities.

He built places for people to enjoy music, read and learn. Before he died, he gave away the equivalent of 5.9 billion in 2022 dollars. Very few people have that type of wealth to give away, but you can still be significant even if it is only in a small way.

Think of Mother Terisa who lived in poverty. Andrew Carnegie’s passion was to help educate the masses. What is your passion for? Do you have that bucket list and does it include giving back to society?

Last, remember life is for living and enjoying, you can’t save it up for some other time because you don’t know what the future will bring. If you think about these changes, you will find that you will really enjoy retirement.

I am here to help coach you on living life with gusto and to help you to keep moving forward with your plans on enjoying life.
