Continuing with “Live life in Crescendo” and talking about last week’s topic I will ask the question did you write your obituary? If you didn’t, is it because you think it is too morbid? Think about this tale.
Alfred Nobel was a very prominent and proficient chemist and inventor in Sweden in the late 1800’s. His invention of dynamite and a series of other safer explosives than those previously used, made him a great fortune.
When his brother Ludwig died several newspapers thought Alfred had died. The obituary stated, Le marchand de la mort est mort ("The merchant of death is dead"), and went on to say, "Dr. Alfred Nobel, who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before, died yesterday.
He was appalled that this was the way he was to be remembered. He decided that he wanted to be remembered for something else and he left his fortune to create the Nobel Prize.
When you die will you be remembered as a stingy, grumpy old person who did not care about anyone? Will you be remembered as a loving spouse who gave back to their family and the community in the third period of their life?
So, if you don't want to write your own than ask a friend or one of your children to write your obituary. Because you want to see if what you think of yourself is what you will be remembered for.
We will talk about Crescendo Mentality next Friday, how Covey and Holler define success and how to improve your life. Make the most of life while you can for many people I know never got that chance.
Try writing yours and see if you need a course correction.
Have you picked up the book “Live Life in Crescendo” by Covey and Haller and are you reading it? I will move on to discussing the Crescendo Mentality in Next Fridays post. See you then.
I am still working on my course, and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes. If you want to participate in this process and join my first class please send me an email to www.bobchuckpatterson@yahoo.com
