Rodman's Ride

I recently read a book on the effects of giving back to your community that was called "Rodman’s Ride and Other Stories of Giving" by Sandy Giardi and Bill Mosher. It is a heartfelt collection of stories about individuals and organizations who embody the spirit of generosity and kindness.

The book highlights the profound impact that acts of giving, whether large or small, can have on communities and individuals in need.

The books hero is a Donald E Rodman and his story starts with him growing poor, becoming a car mechanic, a salesman, and then purchasing a failing Ford Dealership in Foxboro Massachusetts and turning it around.

His attitude on giving was that he grew into being a philanthropist over time. Most people think you have to be rich to be a philanthropist and that it is just about raising money.

He does not feel this way, he felt the true purpose of a philanthropist was about creating opportunities for people to share experiences of goodwill. Central to the books the story is about an event called "Rodman’s Ride," which is an annual charity bike ride started to helping children.

His passion for supporting children’s causes is the driving force behind the event, which brings people together to raise funds for various charities. This event started as a simple fund raiser where he was asked to help revive a failing fund raising event and succeeded into making it a major money maker.

Because of this event his organization helps fund more than forty organizations that help children. This story, along with others in the book, serves as an inspiring reminder of the power of collective effort in making a difference.

Each story in the collection celebrates different forms of giving, emphasizing that generosity is not just about financial contributions but also about giving time, skills, and compassion.

The book offers a diverse range of perspectives on how individuals can contribute to the greater good, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond the initial act of kindness.

Through these stories, readers are encouraged to find their own ways to give back and be part of a larger movement of positive change. Are you struggling on deciding on how you can give back to the community?

He has a quote in his book by Thomas Jefferson – “Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Actions will delineate and define you.” What do your actions say?
