Sales through Serving

I am continuing with the theme that the Bible was the first book about marketing and sales. While it was never intended to be a business manual, it contains timeless principles about relationships, trust, and serving others that are just as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago.
One of the strongest themes throughout Scripture is serving people rather than pressuring them into doing something that only benefits you. Jesus modeled this perfectly.

In Mark 10:45, we are reminded that Jesus "came not to be served, but to serve." Philippians 2:4 encourages us to "look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."
And in Matthew 5:16, Jesus teaches us to let our light shine before others through our good works. These passages reveal an important truth: when we genuinely help others achieve their goals, we often find that our own goals are achieved as well.
The greatest sales strategy has never been about persuasion or manipulation. It is about discovering someone's genuine need and helping them meet it. Jesus consistently put the needs of others first, and businesses that embrace this mindset often build stronger customer relationships, greater trust, and long-term loyalty.
So, how do you put this principle into practice? Interestingly, many modern sales courses teach methods that closely align with these biblical principles. First, ask thoughtful questions before offering solutions.
Take the time to understand your customer's situation instead of assuming you already know what they need. Second, make recommendations based on what truly benefits the customer, not simply what generates the highest profit.
Third, don't disappear after the sale. Follow up to ensure your solution is delivering the value you promised and that it is genuinely helping them. Finally, treat every customer as if they were the most important person in the world.
From a biblical perspective, this means treating every person with dignity and respect because they are made in God's image. When people know you genuinely care about their success, they are far more likely to trust you and continue doing business with you.
As the saying goes, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."
