What Ingredients Do I Need

The New Year is quickly approaching and like a lot of people I have to debate about what I want the New Year to look like. But before I do that I have to ponder the past year.

I put together our past years photos and ponder all the things I have to be grateful for. Have I had issues that I have struggled including money and health? The short answer is yes.

It is these struggles that make me more thankful for all I have experienced, yes even the bad things. Do I keep a daily gratitude journal, no. I do diary but that is not the same thing as a gratitude journal.

I pray and meditation every morning and it helps me stay focused. At the end of the year I pause and look back at where I have been and give thanks to God for what I have experienced.

By looking back I am able to focus on what I still want to do and debate how I will accomplish it. I think about the recipes that my Grandmother used to use. It would list most of the ingredients but might not list something important like flour.

Why, because everyone knew it was needed to make the recipe so why list it. I know I need money in my retirement, but money is not the goal.

The goal is to have a fulfilling retirement, whether that is watching the grand kids, traveling, teaching, writing a blog or something else it is up to me to decide what I consciencely want to do.

I don’t have a plan for the New Year yet. I will spend some time looking at the past, putting it to bed so to speak. I will than decide what I want to do, where do I want to go, and how do I want to spend my time.

What is the most important ingredient? More important than anything else? It is community, Family, Friends and acquaintances that have given me emotional and spiritual support through the good times and bad. Like the Beatles song said - I get by "With a little help from my friends."

The new year is coming on fast and its time to prepare for making the world my oyster. How about you? I will talk to you next year.

I am still working on my course and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes. If you want to participate in this process and join my first class please send me an email to www.bobchuckpatterson@yahoo.com
