Knee Replacement Day 7 through 9

This is the continuing saga of my knee surgery experience on my 2nd knee.

Wednesday, 8/27/25 – I started using a cane today and feel comfortable with it. I have been working on projects and have my Classes set up for the first and second weeks of September.

Napping still occupies a large amount of my day with me working for two hours than napping for forty-five minutes to an hour. I feel home bound – which I am. I am anxious to get out and do something.

I am cutting back on pain pills again tonight, so I am only on the non-narcotic drugs. The sooner I get off the narcotic drugs I can drive. I walked downstairs outside and around the driveway. It felt good to be out and about. My spouse is concerned that I am pushing it too hard.

Thursday, August 28, 2025 – I slept thru the night only waking up at 3am to pee and wondering if I made a mistake on not taking the pain pills. But I got back to sleep and woke up at 6:30am.

I am not using the walker and my knee aches, but I will wait for Mary Kay to get up before taking something. I feel directionless being housebound and looking to get clearance from the doctor to leave.

Friday, August 29, 2025 – I was house bound all day and schoolwork was up to date I am looking for stuff to do without getting Mary Kay mad at me. I can’t believe how far I am ahead of where I was when I had my last knee replaced.

When I get up, I am awake for an hour, then nap for an hour, then nap again mid-morning, noon and 3pm. Dinner and a nap afterwards before more TV and then go to bed at 10:30pm.

Last night I slept through the night with only two Tylenol, and this morning I took a shower, my first one since surgery. It felt great. Today the VNA comes, and it will probably be the last time, and I will be released to PT.

A side effect is I am losing weight. I was at 235 before the surgery, it soared to 240 after the surgery and today was 228.2. It’s great to be losing it but I want to do it safely. Chris DePasquale was my VNA person and released me to outpatient exercise.

I emailed my knee surgent (I needed his blessing) and they told me to call the outpatient place. I did and they got back to me half an hour later. I have a choice, Tuesday after Labor Day at 7:15am or at the end of September.

I want to get back to normal as fast as I can and I was not going to wait 3 weeks and my knee not get better so I took the 7:15am appointment.
