I believe life is lived in three phases. The first is the LEARNING Phase or Growing Phase. It encompasses the time in your life from birth to early adulthood.
It encompasses the time when our experiences, lessons and opportunities shape who we are and how we contribute to the world. In this phase we learn language, absorb attitudes, culture, customs and values from our parents, schools, and communities.
These foundational aspects set the stage for how we will eventually engage with society. It is a time that a person can experiment with different ideas, interests, and develop essential skills for managing relationships and form our own personal identity.
Travel during this time whether with our family, with youth groups, or student exchanges allows us to see what other cultures are like and meet people of different backgrounds. The culmination of this phase is when we graduate from high school.
It is the modern equivalent of a puberty rite and the transition to the next chapter of our life whether it is college or trade apprenticeship. We learn to focus on our future and are preparing to enter the EARNING Phase.
It is all about preparation and curiosity, giving us the tools we need to face the next phase of our life. Next week’s blog will be on the EARNING Phase and the following blog will be on the RETURNING Phase.
If you have struggled with this question and others then go to Patterson2Y2R,com/blog should be a place you should visit to share your stories and challenges.
I have an ear that would love to hear your stories. Let’s taste the real meaning of life. I am still working on my course with a goal of launching a starter course by June 30th, and I will keep you abreast as to how the process goes.
If you want to participate in this process and join my first class please send me an email to bobchuckpatterson@yahoo.com
