Recommitting to our goals

Hi friends,

Have you lost a bit of your New Year momentum? That’s okay. Really. It might just be time for a gentle reset.

I wanted to pop into your inbox to remind you that you’re doing a great job—even if the year hasn’t started exactly the way you imagined. There’s been a lot going on in the world, and it’s more than understandable if January felt more like survival mode than “new year, new me.”

As I head into each new year, I usually reflect on a few priorities. Health almost always stays at the top of the list, because without it, everything else gets harder. This year, I’m also hoping to travel a bit this summer during our class break.

And right up there with those goals is financial health—giving generously and continuing to pay down debt. I’ve made a little progress on each of these in January, but I’ll be honest, I don’t usually hit my stride until February or March.

January is more of a reset month for me—resetting our space after the holidays and setting up better systems for what’s ahead. That might look like reorganizing the pantry, cleaning out a closet, or tweaking my morning routine.

I talk a lot about purpose and change, and for me, my goals really come down to where I place my attention and where and how I spend my money. This year, I’m keeping a very low clothing budget because I already have everything I need (even for upcoming travel).

Despite what influencers might suggest, we don’t need a brand-new wardrobe for a vacation. Now is actually a great time to unfollow accounts that constantly push you to buy more. Also a good time to divest things you don’t use.

And if you’re organizing your bathroom or closet, I encourage you to repurpose bins, boxes, or crates you already have. You don’t need to buy more plastic containers to get organized. Less really is more, friends.

What about you? What are your top goals for 2026? Hit reply.  I’d genuinely love to hear from you.

Warmly,

Bob Patterson
